The 173rd Fighter Wing is comprised of several groups and hosts a tenant unit, the 270th Air Traffic Control Squadron. These units are instrumental in accomplishing the 173rd Fighter Wing's mission, training the most superior air-to-air combat pilots in the world.

Kingsley Field is home to the 173rd Fighter Wing which is located in Klamath Falls, Oregon. The 173rd Fighter Wing is responsible for training the best air-to-air combat pilots in the world. Also, as part of the Air National Guard, the wing serves the State of Oregon and our nation in times of peace and war.

Four miles southeast of Klamath Falls, Oregon, Kingsley Field has a long history in the Klamath Basin. Once a Naval Air Station and active duty Air Force Base, Kingsley Field is now the home of the 173rd Fighter Wing of the Oregon Air National Guard. Kingsley Field is named for an Oregon World War II hero who was killed in action.

Col. Carol Kohtz was the first permanent party female F-15 pilot, as well as the 173 rd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron commander in 2016. She has since moved on and is now the wing commander at the 149 th Fighter Wing in San Antonio Texas.
