I can grow most all northern trees in southern Indiana, whereas many would do very poorly in Louisville. Plant hardiness zones only tell half the story. It's far easier to grow trees when the average high temperature in the hottest month of the year is 83-85F with more than adequate rainfall, compared to 89-92F.
GFS is out to lunch with the strength of the southeast ridge considering how fast it will be getting colder under the snow cover by early December in the northern Plains and Upper Midwest. IMO that should shove the colder air a bit further off to the southeast sending big storm systems and better snow possibilities for the Ohio Valley northward.
