I know that a 204 - No Content is okay for an HTTP POST-Request. For GET request, if no data is to be sent back, is the 204 status code appropriate? 5 204 responses are sometimes used in AJAX to track clicks and page activity. In this case, the only information being passed to the server in the get request is a cookie and not specific information in request parameters, so this doesn't seem to be the case here. It seems that clients1.google.com is the server behind google search suggestions.
The gist of it is, you can return a 204 for that if you want, but with regard to the CORS protocol, browsers don’t care if it’s a 200, 204 or some other 2xx response — anything in the 200 to 299 range is treated exactly the same as far as CORS-protocol handling by browsers.
