Does anyone have any reviews on the ULAT Spanish? Is it effective? Do you as the parent have to help or is it independent? What ages would you recommend to use it for? And how do you scedule it out? I checked the free lessons and it looks like the lesson length various.
My two younger kids are starting the ULAT this year and my Spanish III student is interested. Has anyone tried running a crash course of his earlier lessons to get a more intermediate learner "caught up" to his style?
ULAT is great. I also really like Paul Noble, starting with the “for kids” version and then graduating to the regular course. I would pick one (ULAT, Paul Noble) and add lots of immersion (dubbed cartoons on Netflix, eventually easy readers) and call it good. My kids have absorbed a huge amount of French with this approach.
ULAT teacher/creator, Steve Nesbit, posted on FB that his youngest child passed away from presumptive covid in her dorm room last night. ☹️ She was 20. Prayers for that family. He has posted an obituary and details how ULAT may be temporarily affected on the ULAT FB page.

The ULAT suggests 45 minutes, five days a week, to complete a year of high school Spanish in one year. So, with our secondary materials, we aim for that plus 1-2 half-hour sessions per week. Since I do a "year" of high school Spanish in middle school, we have 20 minute sessions instead of 45 minute sessions, and keep going in the summer as needed.
Option 2: Ulat. I guess we would start at the beginning and just see how far we could get in a year. Option 3: Mommy-Made Hodge-Podge French class. I could find some easy-to-read French short stories (example) and have her read and listen to them and then try to narrate back to me what she understood. And eventually see what we could work towards.
