Although it has grown my hair out tremendously, I’m still not comfortable with starting my locs with such uneven medium/short mullet hair and I also don’t wanna pay hundreds of dollar for loc extensions. Started my locs cause I hate relaxers and got tired of doing my hair. Relaxing the locs defeats the purpose now they look like grinch fingers.
The strands aren’t coarse but they aren’t fine either. I started and maintained both sets myself. Locs pretty much retain all of your shed hair as they mature so yours should even out. Just try to fight the urge to pull at the little balls of hair that form at the end of your locs when they start to frizz up. Good luck on your journey!

Congratulations I’m years in so my hair is sista loc’d, not in the forming locs stage, which you might be in. I currently use rosewater as my moisturizer 2x a week and use jojoba oil for the shaft and ends of my hair.
I've never had locs before but I'm on my second big chop/natural hair journey. I'm thinking of getting locs once my hair has grown past the awkward stage. Honestly starting at the awkward stage was great for me. It’s cute how the lil locs frame your face lol.
