Although 12 o'clock shouldn't be either am or pm, the fact is that if someone writes 12am they mean midnight, if they write 12pm they mean noon/midday. 12am would never ever be midday - sorry Mordapa!

So, 12pm or 12am is absurd by definition. This explains the confusion around it and one person understands 12am, for instance, as midnight and the other as midday. To put it differently, 12 is the time-marker in the middle and the two slots (am and pm) are defined around it, by definition... Yes, but what about 12:05 pm and 12:05 am?...
12am is the exact moment the 12th hour of the morning finishes (am), and similarly for pm. Therefor 12am is midday and pm would start straight after. The confusion has started since the invention of the digital clock. For me,..I usually say goodmorning after 12am or 12midnight.
